Afghan and ISAF patrol foil an attack close to Farah
This morning at 10:10 a.m. local, a motorized patrol, composed of ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) and Afghan soldiers of the ANA (Afghan National Army), was engaged in active control of the territory, after noticing the presence of a possible IED (Improvised Explosive Device) on the side of the road.
During the check procedure, the patrols were attacked by insurgents with automatic weapons. The reaction of the ISAF and Afghan soldiers was ready and accurate: the insurgents fled, allowing a safe intervention of afghan counter IED team.
The event took place 35 km northeast of FARAH city, in Italian-led Regional Command West, in one of the most problematic areas because of the cultivation of the opium poppy.
There has been no damage and no injuries among Italian and Afghans troops. The patrol safely returned to base.
The intervention of the Afghan soldiers is a clear example of acquired potential of the ANSF (Afghan National Security Forces) in the conduct of operations on the field.
