U.S. Army soldiers and Afghan border policemen are increasing medical response capability in Afghanistan by instructing a 12-week medical course at Forward Operating Base Goode.

Afghan students learned many of the same skills a U.S. Army medic learns in Advanced Individual Training, said U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Alvin Crawford, the combat medic noncommissioned officer-in-charge with Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Task Force Duke, and a native of Augusta, Ga.

A combined Afghan and coalition security force conducted a security operation in Zurmat district, Paktiya province, May 3, searching for a Haqqani network leader who had intended to attack the Paktiya governor.
