Feinstein launches new attack; should ATF be altered or abolished?

This morning, the National Shooting Sports Foundation launched a nationwide campaign to counter a new effort by anti-gun California Sen. Dianne Feinstein to ban the importation of so-called “assault weapons” that she claims are not “generally recognized as particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes.”

Issa subpoenas ATF over storefront stings; Ares Armor case on hold

Two seemingly unrelated cases involving the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will keep that agency in the headlines today, with ATF’s legal action against California’s Ares Armor placed on hold, while Congressman Darrell Issa, chair of the House Oversight Committee, late yesterday issued subpoenas to the ATF over yet another scandal, this involving storefront sting operations.

An intriguing story in yesterday’s Mint Press News, asking whether the Fourth Amendment applies to gun owners, coincidentally appeared as a Seattle Times reader, weighing in on a weekend story about firearms injuries in Washington, suggested that “unscheduled warrantless visits” by law enforcement to the homes of gun owners “Sounds like a good idea to me.”

Ares Armor operating; store cameras caught first moments of raid

Ares Armor store security cameras caught the first moments of a raid by agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Saturday, and in an interview this morning with Examiner and The Gun Mag.com, Ares CEO Dimitrios Karras said the company is up and running, and has already replaced computers seized during the raid.

Despite a restraining order, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives raided Ares Armor, a company that sells “80 percent lower receivers” to the general public. The raid came on the heels of a second raid targeting EP Armory, which made similar products.

A Southern California gun shop operator has obtained a temporary restraining order in U.S. District Court against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives over an effort by ATF agents to obtain a list of their customers, and the agency has until Friday to file an opposition to that court motion.

SECOND AMENDMENT SHAMING IN NEW YORK!

New York High School Imposes Suspension for NRA T-Shirt

A high-school sophomore in western New York, was punished for refusing to turn a NRA T-shirt inside-out. The student, 16-year-old Shane Kinney, received one day of in-school suspension.

According to media reports, the official reason given for the one-day in-school suspension, in which Kinney was placed in a room for most of the school day, was “insubordination.” The school’s code of conduct does not prohibit wearing clothing with images of firearms.
