STOLEN VALOR ACT RETURNING?

House Passes New Version

The House of Representatives passed a new version of the Stolen Valor Act, responding to the Supreme Court’s 2012 decision striking it down, by a vote of 390-3.

According to a report by Military.com, the new law now limits bans against false claims of receiving awards to those people who with falsely claim to have been awarded a medal with “intent to obtain money, property, or other tangible benefit.”

Today, the Adams County, Colo. Sheriff’s Office is setting the record straight on what appears to have been a massive hoax that raced across the internet over the weekend, and even ensnared a prominent gun rights writer, one Denver television station, several Second Amendment activists on a popular Northwest gun rights forum and a well-known Second Amendment attorney.

Qari Adil was a senior Taliban leader in Jowzjan province who was responsible for illegal tax collection in Jowzjan and Balkh provinces, intimidating local civilians into paying illegitimate fees in order to fund Taliban operations, assassinating multiple village elders who had resisted his extortion activities, and facilitating the movement of weapons and military equipment for use in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. No longer – ISAF took him out during operations on 21 May.

TREASURY IG DELAYED REPORT RELEASE

E-mails between House Oversight Committee staffers and the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration indicate that a report that acknowledged inappropriate scrutiny of conservative groups was slated for a September, 2012 release. In addition, the IG’s office knew of inappropriate targeting in July.
