Karzai Calls Off Talks After American Meetings With Taliban

Afghan President Hamid Karzai called off a round of talks to discuss a security deal for after 2014 over American talks with the Taliban in Doha, Qatar.

“In view of the contradiction between acts and the statements made by the United States of America in regard to the peace process, the Afghan government suspended the negotiations, currently underway in Kabul between Afghan and U.S. delegations on the bilateral security agreement,” Karzai said in a statement announcing the suspension.

Nine Arrests in Sweep

Federal agents arrested nine managers and owners who had used the Social Security numbers of children and dead people to hire illegal aliens to work at 7-11 convenience stores. As many as 50 illegals were hired in the scheme.

The arrests were the culmination of a decade-long investigation. The owners had forced the employees to live in housing they owned.
