OPSGEAR® and the Utah Shooting Sports Council (USSC) are hosting a "Safe to learn. Safe to teach TM" and want to help all school employees better protect themselves and their students. They are offering a FREE Concealed Carry (CCW) Class and Mass Violence Response Training on Dec. 27th, 2012. In light of the recent tragedy in Connecticut, controversy has been brewing about arming teachers. In Utah teachers with a conceal carry permit can already carry firearms into classrooms.

The course is open to all school employees ranging from teachers, bus drivers, principals and custodians etc... OPSGEAR CEO David Burnell said, "We will discuss the dynamics of an attack and teach the participants several crucial tactics designed to disrupt the attacker(s) and save lives."

Since the school shooting, OPSGEAR® and the USSC have been flooded with people, specifically teachers, asking for training and advice! OPSGEAR® has been training military, law enforcement and civilians for over a decade and has provided free self-defense seminars and training dvds. OPSGEAR® is already booked to speak to at local schools on the anatomy of an attack and the psychology of an active shooter. Burnell is available to speak at other schools upon request. The Utah Shooting Sports Council has been instrumental in all legislation protecting the right of Lawful Self Defense within Utah's schools and Universities.

Clark Aposhian, owner of Fair Warning Training will be teaching the CCW portion of the class. He is a Chairman of the Utah Shooting Sports Council, a firearms lobbyist, advocate and instructor. "The only reason to maintain the right for the law abiding to carry a firearm inside a school is if we are committed to and serious about protecting our children." said Aposhian.

The FREE CCW and Training event is scheduled for Thursday, December 27th from 12-6pm at the Maverik Center. Please email media@opsgear.com with your name, school and the number of guests attending. You will be required to bring a district or school ID to verify your school employment. Additionally, if you'd like a spouse, friend or loved one to attend who is not a school employee, we'll offer the class for just $35 and all the money raised will go to charity. The free class and training doesn't cover the state application fee of $46. Attendees will be responsible for that fee. However, we will provide all of the training, finger printing and photos for the ccw permit. Students don't need to bring a firearm to the class. However, if they choose to, we ask that all ammo be left behind. NOBODY is allowed to have loaded firearms in the training class. We are limiting the class to 200 students. You must RSVP to reserve a seat!
