The Pentagon went into lockdown Thursday morning amid an active hazmat incident, a source inside the building told Soldier of Fortune. The response involves three corridors, comprising approximately one-quarter of the building. Floors and corridors have been evacuated. This is no precautionary exercise, the source said, and teams are wearing gas masks.
“This is no drill,” the source told Soldier of Fortune.
“Force Protection Agency teams are wearing gas masks.”
Arlington Fire and EMS confirmed their hazardous materials team is on scene, operating alongside the Pentagon Force Protection Agency’s hazmat unit.
Multiple floors and corridors have been locked down, with others being evacuated, according to officials.
Building systems detected “an air quality issue” requiring precautionary measures “until we determine its significance,” according to Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell.
The incident comes as the United States remains in active hostilities with Iran.
