Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin is among those killed in a plane crash from Moscow to St. Petersburg, Russian officials said on Wednesday.

Prigozhin’s group launched what appeared to be an aborted coup against president Vladimir Putin in June.

A private jet carrying Prigozhin crashed on Wednesday in Russia’s Tver Region, officials said. The Russian Emergencies Ministry said all 10 people on board had died.

“The Embraer plane was flying out of Sheremetyevo to St. Petersburg. There were three crew and seven passengers on board. They all died,” an Emergencies Ministry official told TASS.

The crash occurred near the village of Kuzhenkino in the northwestern Tver Region. Some Russian media outlets have identified the plane as an Embraer Legacy 600, with the tail number RA-02795, which is believed to belong to Prigozhin.

Wagner supporters on Telegram have said that Prigozhin was on a different plane.

The Kremlin did not immediately return a request for comment.
