WWII Veteran Sidney Portier served for 10 months at the age of 16

Sidney Portier’s first acting role was in the Army. Homeless, out in the streets in NYC with 3 dollars in his pocket, he lied about his age and joined the army to escape the cold. As out of place in the army as he had been in Miami, he feigned insanity to win a medical discharge.
